Australia will host the opening race of the Formula 1 season next year after the 2025 calendar was confirmed – with no new races on the calendar.
It means Lewis Hamilton will make his debut for Ferrari at Melbourne’s Albert Park, which last hosted the first race in 2019 after Covid ended the 2020 opener. Australia will host the first race of the season on Sunday March 16, two weeks later than this year’s departure date.
Bahrain hosted the first race of the season since 2021, following pre-season testing at the same track in Sakhir, but was postponed until April due to Ramadan.
Saudi Arabia also moved to April, with China and Japan moved up a month in races two and three respectively.
The 24-race season concludes in Abu Dhabi on December 7. The 2025 British Grand Prix will take place from July 4-6 at Silverstone.
Pre-season testing will take place in Bahrain, two weeks before the first race, with three days of testing from February 26 to 28.
For the second year in a row, no new races will be scheduled. 2026 is shaping up to be different, however, as Madrid is already confirmed as the new home of the Spanish Grand Prix, meaning 2025 could be the last year Barcelona hosts an F1 race.
Other changes to the schedule include an April tripleheader between Japan, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, while Spain has moved forward three weeks to late May/early June.
Belgium and Hungary have also swapped weekends, with Budapest now hosting the last race before the usual summer break.
This year there is a four-week gap in autumn, but there will be no such gap in the calendar next year, with only a week off between Singapore and Austin in October.
